Through my work developing colour palettes for healthcare buildings and their interiors, I have been engaged as Arts Coordinator to develop the Arts Strategy and subsequent Arts Programmes for a number of major new healthcare developments.
I work closely with the architects to establish the opportunities for the visual arts within their design. The key thing is always to identify what links architecture, locality, and the end user's relationship with the building.
I work with the NHS Trust, engaging the local community within the Arts Programme; I believe this builds community spirit and encourages local ‘ownership’ of the new facility. Where appropriate I engage professional artists, through tender submission, to create site-specific artworks.
"The success of the arts installations within the building is testament to Frances’ collaboration with the design team; she grasped our design aesthetic and worked with us to ensure the art was meaningful to the architecture and purpose of the building."
Cressida Toon, Sonnemann Toon Architects
"Frances' drive, commitment and creativity developed an engaging and thoughtful series of art projects for the City of Coventry Health Centre ensuring members of the community and staff had input, as well as taking on board competing considerations on FM, lifecycle and health and safety.
The results have been integrated, harmonious pieces of art that act as beacons and focal points directing people into and throughout the building. Frances’ care and passion, ensuring every stage of the process was delivered on time and on budget, has been realised in artworks that can be admired
for many years to come."
Vicki Ridgway, Coventry Care Partnership Ltd.
"Due to the challenging programme and financial constraints of the project, it was necessary for Frances to inspire and motivate stakeholders into moving forward at a pace in order hit the building handover deadline, Frances achieved this with flair and good humour and everyone was delighted with the completed artworks which were installed on time and within budget".
